Tomato Chutney | Coimbatore Style Thakkali Chutney

Tomato Chutney - It is a spicy and tasty chutney made from tomatoes.This chutney can be easily stored in cool and dry place for weeks.

Ingredients for Tomato Chutney

  • 1 tsp Oil
  • 1/2 tbsp Urad dal
  • 5 Dry Red Chillies
  • 4 Tomatoes – finely chopped
  • Salt to taste

For Seasoning:

  • Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • Curry Leaves a sprig


How to cook the recipe

  • Heat oil in a pan, add in urad dal and dry red chilies and saute till golden.
  • Now add in tomatoes, salt and mix well. Cover and simmer the pan and cook for 5 to 10 mins. Now it is cooked. Take this in a blender and mash till smooth.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add in mustard seeds,curry leaves and mix well.
  • Add in chutney
  • Serve with idli or dosa.

  2. would this work with green tomatoes, or a mixture of green and red ones? I dont like the sound of the green tomatoe recipe
