Ingredients

Ingredients for Mullangi Sambar

  • 1/2 cup toor dal
  • 1/2 cup radish
  • 1 medium size chopped onion
  • 1 medium size chopped tomato
  • 1 tsp tamarind pulp
  • 2 1/2 tbsp sambar powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 turmeric powder
  • salt to taste
  • coriander leaf

To temper

  • curry leaves
  • 1 red dry chilli
  • A pinch of hing
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds

Instructions

How to cook the recipe

  • Soak toor dal for half an hr. Pressure cook for 4-5 whistles along with turmeric powder and mash.keep it aside.
  • Now add 1 tbsp oil in a pressure cooker, add onion, tomato, radish, cook for 5-10 minutes in low flame.
  • Now add sambar powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, 1/2 cup water, Once it boils, add mashed toor dal, tamarind pulp, and salt. Cook for 1 whistle.
  • Now take another pan add 1 tsp oil, add mustard seeds Once it starts to splutter, add curry leaves, dry red chilli, hing and saute for 5 minutes.
  • Add this to sambar.Add coriander leaf.
  • Mullangi sambar is ready.
