kothavarangai Paruppu usili is a very popular South Indian curry prepared with cluster beans,and channa dal.It is a traditional dish and very good accompaniment for morkulambhu and vatha kulambhu.

Ingredients

Ingredients for kothavarangai Paruppu Usili

  • 200 grams Cluster Beans Finely Cut
  • 5 tbsp Oil
  • 1/4 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • few Curry Leaves
  • pinch of hing
  • 3 green chilli chopped
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • salt to taste

Grind Together:

  • 1 cup Channa dal
  • 4 Red Chillies

Instructions

How to cook the recipe

  • First soak the channa dal, red chilli, curry leaves in water for 1 hours, and grind them in smooth paste without adding water to it.
  • Heat oil in a pressure cooker add mustard seeds, Once it starts to splutter, add chopped onions, curry leaves, hing, turmeric powder, sauté it and add green chilli, cluster beans, salt, and some water cook for few minutes, and then add dal paste put the lid on pressure cooker without a whistle in a slow flame for 10-15 minutes. Open the lid mix nicely till it becomes soft.
  • Switch off the flame, serve this with rice or chapatti.
