Ingredients
Ingredients for Thayir Vadai
- 1 tbsp cumin seeds
- 1 tbsp mustard seeds
- 2 cup curd or dahi or yogurt
- 1 cup Urad daal
- 2 piece red chili
- Oil for fry
- Salt to taste
- pinch of hing
- grated carrots for granishing
Instructions
How to cook the recipe
For vada
- Clean, wash and soak the urad dal overnight or a minimum of 1/2 an hour.
- Drain the water and grind the dal in grinder/mixie using as little water as possible.
- Take this urad dal batter in a bowl and add required salt.
- Heat the oil for frying the vadas.
- To shape the vadas, wet your hand, take a small portion of batter on the palm your hand.you can also use banana leaves.
- Using the finger of your other hand or the thumb of the same hand, make a small hole in the center of the batter .
- Fry the vada till crisp and golden in medium heat.
- Fry all the vada this way till they become evenly browned and crisp.
- Take the hot vadas and put in cold water for 2-3 minutes.
- Now take them out of water and squeeze the water and keep aside.
For Dahi
- Beat curd well with a fork or blender. Then add salt ,mix well and keep aside .
- Then place vada one by one and soak them for half an hour in the curd.
- Add mustard seeds,cumin seeds and red chilli.When it splutters lower the flame and add pinch of hing, saute for a few seconds. Then add it to the vadas.
- Finally garnish with grated carrots.
- Serve the curd vadas chilled.
